Selection is from a main menu, graphics are there and there is a promise of things to come in Franglais 6 which will conclude the series. • From Picts to Parliament Part III
As this series of six disks is sequential it is preferable to have parts 1 and 2. Part III is as humourous as usual and presents history in colourful graphics with accompanying text in an irreverent but accurate manner. This disk continues the saga of the Middle Ages with all the dreams and aspirations of Kings such as Richard the Lionheart, Henry III etc. Some were sane, others were not, but the whole webb is woven together, including poll taxes and how to be King of France and England at the same time! Shakespeare loved this era and so will you if you want to learn history with a difference! Press SPACE to pause between the screens.

  • I Am Lost
This one hails from New Zealand and is intended as a guide to tourists. A flag flies at various locations in the North and South Islands and the user is required to type in the location of the flag. Modest graphic hints are shown to help you along. You must type in the name of the place. • Four Years
This module has six units therein and the state of play is just right for 4 year olds. 'Colour' provides simple pictures which are coloured via mouse selection from a simple palette. 'Mirror' should entertain the kids by simple reflection of everything drawn either horizontally or vertically. Nitpick' displays an array of two similar looking letters. You must click on each instance of the specified letter. Although the lower levels are suited to a young child, the higher ones are difficult even for adults! 'Tile one' is simply a case of filling in a grid with coloured tiles. 'Tile 2' lets you draw in colour in the left hand square and watch it being reflected in the right hand square. 'Typewriter program' is a lot of fun for the young. A keyboard is shown with one coloured letter which must be typed in. As the process continues, the words to 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' are built up and part of the tune is played each time a verse is completed.

  • Interesting Mathematics
This program is aimed at 10 year olds and handles a variety of subjects via menu selection. The emphasis is mostly on areas and volumes of geometric shapes (circles, cones, squares and cubes) but the Imperial & Metric systems are discussed and there's a quick look at multiplication. Proportion and ratio is also covered. The text would be rather difficult for a 10 year old to follow so we suggest that it is more suited to an older child or a 10 year old with adult help.

  • WizPack
This is an odd one. It sort of borders between artificial intelligence, OCR and a game! It is intended as a simplified introduction to artificial intelligence systems and image recognition systems. WizPack consists of two programs, the first is an image recognition system. You draw the letters of the alphabet on screen and teach the program which image belongs to which letter. It is then possible for the program to recognise letters even when drawn in a slightly different manner or at a completely different size. The second program is a two player game in which each player draws five images (or letters) when their opponent is not looking, and they have to try draw the same image as their opponent did. As soon as it looks vaguely like the image, the program reveals the name of the image by way of a clue.
