Delta Labs PD

The DL series was started by the company Delta Labs, publisher of a popular range for Ataris CDs (Alpha, Omega, Transmission and others). This series was started late in the ST’s life cycle and features therefore more modern applications. Delta Labs later went into the business selling ink for printers, but the company never forget its Atari roots: At Deltalabs.biz you can download their CDs, the CD magazine Revolution and various PD series (J, AM, Pool, GFA-Club, DL, Kontrast, TT).

  • OCR
    This OCR software can recognize text in scanned images and save it as ASCII text, which can then be further processed with an editor or a word processor. Correction rules can be defined for characters that are difficult to recognize. It is possible to store different fonts in separate character set databases, so that once learned character sets from e.g. a magazine can be used again and again.

    Hypertext system. This program can be used to display hypertexts, such as the Atos magazine or many program manuals. The big advantage of a hypertext system is that you can jump directly to the desired position in such a text by mouse click instead of reading through long instructions. Starting with version 1.5 it is possible to display colored hypertexts in addition to b/w.

    The slideshow program is based on the many others which are available on the PD. PCSVIEW2 can also load ICE-PACKED versions of the above screens. Typically, TINY and PC1 screens are halved and PCS screens are reduced by around 30%, ideal for slideshows since PCS files can be very large.
  • Real-3D to RAW-QRT
    It is designed to convert broadcast-quality screens produced by 'Real-3D' to the QRT 'RAW' format on the ST. This will allow PhotoChrome to load them as standard QRT screens and display them in the top 12-bit or 15-bit modes.

PAD has all the features expected of such a package and much more. There are varoius options for shadowing, graduated grey fills, printing at various sizes and up to 100 screens of animation is possible if you have sufficient memory. It allows easy creation of 3D objects of almost any size and shape. Needs at least 1 Meg.

    It's the old story of a peaceful kingdom governed by a wise king, who dies without naming a successor. As a result, his six sons get greedy and want the best parts of the kingdom for themselves. You play the part of one of the six sons, preparing to battle it out with your brothers. Midi Wiz uses an overhead view like Nethack and Gauntlet and is a sort of trading/conquest game. You must increase your armed forces, build fortifications and of course trade goods with others. The use of magic to invent things (a bit like Dino Dudes but not so much fun!), create dragons, elephants, healing potions etc, all adds to the appeal. As the name suggests, Midi Wiz allows several computers to be linked together in a Midi network so that you can compete against others in real time. As the game runs on any Atari computer, you could easily link up an ST, TT and Falcon in a network. This unregistered version does not let you save your progress, limits the size of the network to three computers and has a few more restrictions.
